Some milestones are sweeter than others

and this new one of Lukas is driving us bonkers! For the past week or so, he's gotten into an independent streak of sorts when it comes to eating. That means that whenever it's dinner time (or breakfast time or lunch time), he refuses to eat anything chewable that we give him by spoon. However, if he grabs it himself, he'll eat the same thing with no qualms. And i isn't a simple clamping of the mouth and turn of the head - nope, his refusal encompasses spitting out whatever miniscule object has touched his mouth, whether he likes it or not. He has no problem accepting liquefied baby food (loved the black bean soup abuelita made for him today), but the stage 3 foods or shredded chicken and rice or any other foods of the sort are just not wanted from mommy's spoon. This makes meals very messy and a tug of power between Lukas and mommy.

Ironically though, he doesn't seem to have the same problem at daycare, or at least, that's what they're letting me to believe.

Another milestone he's touching on that's not so fun - tantrums! You would think a one-year-old is too young for tantrums, but they are starting with Lukas. Today, he actually threw himself on the floor and hit the floor with his hands. I was shocked! Welcome to toddlerhood indeed.
