It's a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Birthday Party

Yesterday was Lukas' 1st birthday party and it was amazing. The weather help up in our little corner of the park - while torrential rain fell everywhere else, we were spared and my biggest fear did not come true. The cake table decorations came in on time and looked spectacular. The cake, made by one of his caregivers at daycare, was beautiful (and scrumptious!) and everything I would've wanted in a cake for his first birthday. The bounce house was a favorite of the kids, including little Lukas who had his few moments in it (with mommy of course) that caused him loads of laughter. The cotton candy was some of the best cotton candy I've ever tasted, and the snow cones were not so bad either. The kids had a blast.

It humbles me to see the turn out we had - most of our friends and family were there to share this special day, and it just turned out perfect. Many times I'll leave from a party I've planned feeling that things could've gone better, but yesterday, I felt that it was simply perfect. Lukas was overall very happy, sociable and intrigued by all the new things he was experiencing: bouncing in the bounce house, sitting in a ball pit, tasting some cotton candy and having some cake. He was the center of attention and it didn't phase him. He wore his Mickey Mouse Clubhouse outfit down to the shoes, and even though it was hot, he was a champion.

The decorations also came out pretty good, if I do say so myself. I am extremely grateful to my aunts and cousins who arrived early to help out it blowing up balloons and setting up the tables, goody bags, food, etc. My wonderful husband had been full of great ideas for the birthday. His best? The mickey mouse ears centerpieces. He got 3 shallow pots - one medium and two small - and glued them together to make mickey mouse head/ears. Then, once glued, he spray painted them black. We tapped a set of four balloons - black, blue, red and yellow - in them and then filled the bowls with candy. The beautiful pinata was made by my aunt and was a total success, although the swarm of kids pushing and shoving and diving in order to grasp a handful of candy and knick knacks was a bit scary.

And we got some great pictures thanks to my hubby's friend who gracefully accepted camera duty and took some wonderful pictures! Oh, and we had a clown, Twinkles, who painted some masterpieces on the faces of the kids and even did some balloon swords. All in all, I couldn't have asked for a better birthday party for my son's first birthday. :)
