Well, sorta. This past week, Lukas has been gearing to taking steps unassisted. The first night was Wednesday, where he took 3 steps towards me with some coaxing. Then, Thursday night, he put on a show by repeating a 3-4 step encore about 4 times. :) And then Friday morning he did it one more time for daddy (because he missed it the first 2 times). He is so proud of himself when he's taking the steps and he knows how to do it, but then if he stumbles or falls, he gets upset and frustrated. But the best thing is seeing him beam and grin as I (or whoever is looking) claps and hollers, edging him on. And today I caught him standing by himself and then looking over at me to see if I was watching and making a big deal about it. :) My baby!
He hasn't taken more steps since Friday, though, but that could be because he hasn't been feeling well. Yesterday he was a little warm in the am but no fever, so we went to the mall. When we left, he was burning, and when we got home I took his temp and it was 103! The highest it got last night was 103.7, just shy of the 104 they said was the official "go-to-the-ER" temp. Anyway, Tylenol every 4 hours throughout the night and he woke up cooler - no fever today, but still giving him tylenol. He has no other cold symptoms so it's weird. I'll be taking him tomorrow to the dr because I'm wondering if it's the ears - again.
So my little man is taking steps!
So now I'm hoping he does the walking again so I can catch it on video!

My baby is growing up
I can't believe he'll be 13 months this Saturday. I know I keep saying he's not a baby anymore, but even with him trying to walk on his own, with him babbling words that are each day sounding more and more like actual speech, and with him learning and advancing so much, I still see him as my baby. Granted, I look at his newborn pictures and I'm in awe that he was ever that little.... and that chubby! Oh those rolls, how I miss them! Instead, I have this lean "toddler" who is always on the move and loving his school so much.
Daycare is going well. He loves his teachers, Ms. Carmen, Ms. Norita, and Ms. Consuelo. He loves his classmates, and above all, he loves the attention he gets. Now, we walk to class from the moment we enter main door. I'll put him down, hold his hand (one hand) and proceed to walk towards his classroom. And he loves it. He walks straight, looking at everything and everyone, and pauses periodically to beam at whoever is looking because he's walking to class. Did I mention that he loves attention? Oh boy, does he! In school, he gets music class and art class, and I get to see all the masterpieces he makes. He also loves reading time and going outside to play. He loves being outdoors. I hope to encourage that, and maybe that way mommy and daddy can do more stuff outside and less stuff inside. ;)
He's been transitioning into the whole milk quite nicely, too. We completely weaned off breastmilk a few weeks ago, and so now we do formula in the morning and then whole milk for the other 2 bottles of the day. He loves his yogurt and even loves fruit - especially blueberries! Oh my goodness, I've never known a kid to love blueberries so much! Just like his daddy. :) He also like guava though, and that's from my side. lol. He's definitely our child.
No more teeth for now, but he's doing some cute new things. He knows his "lengua" (tongue) and when you say, where's your tongue (in Spanish), he sticks his tongue out and sometimes grabs it. He still knows his "ojitos" (eyes) and we're trying to teach him nose. He also does this thing where he clenches his fists and clenches his jaw, puts on a "mad" look, and shakes his arms. It is hilarious! And he cracks up when we imitate him. Speaking of imitation - he's imitating us! Now I really have to be careful with what I say and do. Yesterday we laughed throwing our head back and he did the same thing! Very funny. That's my munchkin... Mr. Smiles. :)

And the teeth keep coming
Last weekend, I realized that Lukas had sprouted his seventh tooth: the bottom right lateral incisor! And he's still drooling buckets so I have a feeling there are more coming soon. Wow! Today's entry is short. I'm tired, I had previously written something for this blog but, although I thought I had saved it, it seemed to have disappeared. I've spent the last few hours grading papers and I'm tired... and watching the clock tick away to 5:00 so I can go! It's 5 o'clock somewhere but not here.

We have 6 teeth (total)
This past weekend, Lukas cut his 6th took - the 4th on the top. It's the top left central incisor. Whew - that's a mouthfull! So he is now sporting 6 pearly whites at different developmental stages. It's qutie a site. :)
He's also standing much better on his own and can manuver around the house like a pro using his little walking car (the push kind, not the sitting kind). He will walk until he reaches a road block and then stealthily move it so that he can continue walking. And he loves it - he laughs gleafully when he does it right (and on the flip side, he is insulted when he fails).

Parrot Jungle Island
Labor Day weekend was very nice. It started off quite rainy, but hubby and I were able to squeeze in a date night at Sunset Place Sat night. It almost felt like we were young and irresponsible again... almost. It was fun strolling down the walkways, arm in arm, giggling and chatting. We ate dinner and had a drink at Martini Bar (yum!) and then window shopped for a bit before heading to Barnes & Nobles to have a caramel macchiatto (my pick) and some dessert (brownie and chocolate chip cookie anyone?). We reminisced about those days that seem to have happened so long ago. We were big on the Barnes & Nobles or Borders outings, just sitting back, sipping coffee, and talking about whatever came to mind - life, the future. Ah, I how I miss those days of calm.
My mom came over Sat night to watch Lukas and she stayed the night, which was God-sent because we were able to go out and we were able to sleep. Lukas has been sleeping fine, except that the last few days he's been getting up once, and usually that once is at about 5 am. Sunday was rainy and windy, no thanks to Gustav making his way to our west towards the Gulf states. But we managed to make some errand runs to Babies R Us and BJs for some much needed (baby) supplies. Nana also came over, and Lukas was able to enjoy some quality time with both grandma's. How he loves his abuelita and nana! :)
Monday brought around nice weather, so we took advantage and had a family outing - to Parrot Jungle Island! None of us had been there before, not to the new one anyway. It was nice. Nothing spectacular, but nice nonetheless. Lukas enjoyed some time at the Petting Farm, where he was able to, with the aid of daddy, give a bottle to a baby lamb (or goat... or something). He kept looking and pointing everywhere with his every curious "eh?" We watched a show - the winged something or other - about birds which was fascinating. Even Lukas was on board with watching all the different birds fly over his head and he clapped with glea alongside the audience whenever it clapped. Very cute times indeed.
The only dissappointment came by way of pictures. When you walk in through the entrance, you're greeted by overzealous pseudo-photographers trying to get a pic of you and your family with the parrots. I have to admit that I thought the initial photo of Lukas asleep in his stroller and a blue featherd parrot laying on top of the stroller would have been spectacular. And it was - almost. My in-desparate-need-of-a-pedi feet and daddy's sneakers came out in the otherwise endearing picture. And no matter how hard the young lady in the photo area tried, our feet/shoes just ruined the picture. We did take another picture at the end with the three of us awake, albeit exhausted, but it was taken so quickly that I came out with a dazed and confused look on my face. Nice. Next time, I guess.
We ended the day by getting home and taking a two hour long nap - all three of us. Afterwards, we did some odds and ends around the house and then turned down for the night. And so ended our holiday weekend.
