My Big Little Man

This is probably the longest I've gone without blogging on this side. Last semester was difficult, to say the least, but it passed and it's both a new year and a new semester, so I'm looking forward to that. I have kept up a bit more on my other blog, Muses and Musings and there you can find out what's going on with me as far as health (which was the biggest challenge I faced last semester, apart from Mr. L's sleeping habits - both of which are somewhat connected).

Well, Mr. L has, thankfully, improved on his sleep. We haven't had night terrors for over a month now, almost two I think. He does wake up at night, though, maybe once, but he doesn't cry. He might come and get daddy. We've realized one of the biggest issues he has is not seeing daddy before daddy goes to work. So that means Mr. L's been having a much earlier wake time during the regular work week. Weekends, he'll come into our bed and sleep the remainder of the morning, until about 8ish, with us. We can deal with that. :)

He also has a big BIG boy bed - full sized! That's bigger than either one of us ever had growing up! We converted his crib/toddler bed into the full-sized version, ordered a good mattress during the Black Friday weekend, and voila - big boy room. For real.

Of course, the space is tight, but he's happy. And he's sleeping so much better.

The winter break was quiet but restful. Daddy got to take a week off, and after much deliberation, we decided to stay in and not travel anywhere. That was probably the best decision we've taken as it afforded us the opportunity to catch up on much needed rest. We'd sleep in until 9, stay in PJs until 2, lounge around, play the Wii (oh yea, we got the Wii!) and just meander though the days. We didn't get too much accomplished, but we all needed that rest.

Mr. L is eating up a storm, much better than he has in a long time. He's still not buying the milk thing, but he's eating nicely. His favorite meal is "pollito with yellow rice and salsita," AKA chicken kitchen's chop chop with curry mustard sauce. I've learned how to make the sauce so I can recreate it at home, and the food disappears.

My favorite line of his was recently. He's really into all the superheroes. Spiderman. Superman. Batman. Ironman. All the "man's." I'm guessing his obsession started at school because to this day, he's never watched any of the superhero shows. He and daddy are always saying one is Spiderman and the other is Ironman. Well, during the break (I think it was during the break), we're playing around. He turns to daddy and says:

"Daddy, you're a superhero, too, just like me."

"What about mommy," daddy asks.

Without skipping a beat, he looks at me and smiles: "Mommy's a princess!"

My heart melted.

I don't care what anyone says, showering your child with affection will NOT spoil him; in fact, it will turn him into a caring and empathetic little man (or girl - you know what I mean). This and the way he acts with us, is proof of that. He'll hug us for no reason, give us a kiss, tell us he loves us. When we lay in bed, he'll turn to us, put his hand on our face and smile. If it were up to him (now at least), he'd spend every moment with all those he loves. And while I know school and all this independent stuff is good, I love it when he's so affectionate. :)
