Mother's Day was last weekend, and my oh my was it the best Mother's Day so far! :) This was my third mother's day.
We started the weekend on Saturday. J's gift to me was a mini-shopping spree. :) I was in dire need of clothes! In the regular semesters, I have no time to shop, and the few times I go anywhere, I end up getting L clothes and nothing for me! Also, having a child has simultaneously translated to: every shirt will now have a series of small holes on the front. Why? I'm guessing it's because when I carry L, the shirt rubs right around the belly part and the friction brings on the holes. I don't know. It's a guess and the only explanation I can give. It just seems that all the shirts I wear on the weekend/after work (none of my work shirts have holes!) have the same pattern. They're holey! ;)
Anyway, Saturday we headed over to Dadeland Mall. There, we got L a couple things (of course) for the cruise -YAY!- and met my mom. My mom had been wanting to buy me a shirt forever, but I'm a tad bit complicated when it comes to buying clothes. She took the opportunity and we went to Macy's where I actually found several pieces I liked! I picked out a beautiful, indigo blue swirled blouse - butterfly! was what L exclaimed when he saw me in it. :) It went beautifully with my white pants, and me la estrene for Mother's Day on Sunday. Mommy was a happy mommy!
I also picked out a summery yellow, flower-print peasant blouse and a pink/orange/flower sundress with a white mini-cardigan! Then, we kept going. I got shoes, got L some more shirts, and then we headed home, exhausted.
Once home, L wanted to give me his present.
"Mommy, surprise!"
"Okay, baby. I'll open it tomorrow on Mother's Day."
"NooooooOOOO!" It came out in a scream/wail and he started bobbing up and down on his little knees as if he were getting ready for a meltdown. He hadn't napped.
"Okay, baby." To this he grinned, wiped away his tears, and began tearing up the wrapping paper - red Mickey birthday wrapping.
My husband told me L had wrapped it himself. There's nothing better than the love that comes through that wrapped-by-a-two-and-three-quarters-year-old boy.
It was a Precious Moments figuring of a little boy holding a sign that read: I love Mom. :) I melted. My husband said it reminded him of L. I have to agree.
Mother's Day came. L slept all night with no night terrors, thankfully. We woke up, got ready, called our moms to wish them a Happy Mother's Day, and headed to pick them up for breakfast. I wore my white pants with the blue shirt my mom had gotten me. I loved the look! L came to me with a hug and said: "Mudder Day," something he then repeated to Abui and Nana.
We made our way to Sabores Chilenos and were pleasantly surprise we were the second group there. No wait time = happy moms! We all sat together and enjoyed each other's company as we munched on yummy scrambled eggs and ham, ayuyas, sopaipilla, cafe con leche, and, to end the feast, a slice of torta milhoja and torta de lucuma. Delicious! Then off to Dolphin Mall we went for some walking and shopping! Our afternoon ended at about three. We dropped off the moms, and L fell asleep for 10 minutes as we drove home.
After arriving home, we freshened up and headed to tia Lori's for a delicious Mother's Day barbecue. L had a great time running, hiding, laughing, looking at frogs, playing the drums and playing with his primos. It was the perfect ending to a perfect day! There's something wonderful about spending a day with family.
From his school, L brought me a cut-out of his hands, a wooden moon, painted and with a picture of him, and a towel for the kitchen with both his hands painted on it. :)
It's nice to be a mom.
