Monsters Be Gone and Other News

L is finally able to materialize a fear, and that fear is monsters. About a week or so, he has begun playing "monsters" and talking about it often during the day. At night, his sleep was becoming affected. We thought is was a new ear infection or teething or an impending cold, but within a few nights it was clear that he was afraid of something, we just didn't know what. It didn't really "click" though until last night when he actually started crying and saying something about monsters. So I did the mom duties and checked every single corner in his room and the nearby spaces right outside of it for monsters. Under the bed - no monsters. In the closet - no monsters. Behind the chair- no monsters. Behind his door - no monsters. Finally, I looked at him and said, "No more monsters!" He looked at me, said okay, and put his head down. He was out within minutes and slept all night long. It was wonderful!

I was reading up on this last night and I read that one of the ways that children are able to handle their fears is to "obsess" over them. This means that he'll talk about it, not necessarily in a fearful manner, he'll role play, he'll address it in whatever way he can. And the funny thing is, that's exactly what L had been doing, I just didn't know it yet.

He's also finally mastered his name. Yes, ladies and gentlemen. He no longer says Putas! Nope, he says his name, correctly, loud and clear! =) It's awesome. We no longer have to give long-winded explanation as to why my son was saying "whore" in Spanish. LOL.

And a final, spectacular milestone is that L has finally said "I Love You" - correctly. Well, it sounds more like "I wub you" but it's not "you're welcome"! And he knows when to say it, which is the real kicker. He'll say: "Mommy, I wub you," and I become blubber. The same happens to my husband. And my mother. And Nana. It's the best part about parenting. It makes me (almost) forget the sleepless nights. Almost. ;)
