Catching up

I haven't blogged in forever. Life in the fast lane is keeping me away from here, but I wanted to pop in and update you all on Mr. L. :)

The last time I posted, L had been not himself and that made for a not-so-fun birthday weekend for mommy. But, as it turned out, L not only had a sore throat, but he had an ear infection, too - again. His not feeling well lasted for a total of about 3 weeks. He did get his 8th tooth in, and I swear he's got some molars coming in. I just don't know which ones. But he's gnawing on those fingers like he's never gnawed before. And when the drool just comes without any breaks, I know that there's a tooth near.

He's also talking and walking like crazy. He's become a pro and walking, but sometimes drops down on all fours and goes back to crawling. When he wants to go fast is when he does that. I think it's because he hasn't mastered that art of running (thank god!) yet.

We took him this past week to The Little Farm - it's a pumpkin patch, petting zoo, pony ride, and farm wonderland. It's small, but really cute. Lukas was a bit timid up close with the animals, but from far, he was pointing and talking nonstop. He cried a little when he got on the pony, but as soon as the pony started moving he quieted down. Never really smiled; he rode the pony with a wide-eyed, "what the hell is this" look on his face. Priceless. lol. He also got to meet Mr. Scarecrow.

After the little farm, we went to the park by our house where L got to go down the slide, ride on the swing, and get his very first scraped knee. Yep. My poor baby. He barely noticed it though, and instead reveled in the feeling of swinging and sliding.
Let's see. He managed yesterday to get himself inside a bar stool. I'm not sure why, but he did, and then he was upset that he was stuck there. I had to lift it up to get him out of there. :) This weekend we're taking him to the zoo for some halloween fun. Yay!
Oh yea, and I now know I can cut his hair. In an act of desparation, because I kept trying to comb his hair but no amount of brushing or combing would tame his curls, I took a leap of faith and cut his hair.... with scissors (not clippers). And you know what? It came out really good! It looks like professionals did it. I can now save money on his haircuts. *patting myself on the back* Hmmm, maybe I should go into business cutting baby hair? Nah. And as it turns out, I did it just in time for his school portraits on Tuesday. :) Talk about perfect timing!
That's all for now, folks!

Mommy's Not So Fun Birthday

This past weekend we went to Disney for Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party and for my birthday. Of course, the weekend went nothing as planned and was actually a bummer. I got sick right before leaving, we caught awful traffic on the way up, we overslept and got late to the event at Magic Kingdom, Lukas got a temperature Sat night, Sun (my bday) he was miserable and not in a good mood, only to feel and act a little better just in time to leave Mon morning. Well, fast forward to last night when Lukas got a fever. We went into the dr's office today only to find out he had another ear infection. So his Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde act was nothing more than the poor thing feeling horrible and being in pain! :( Poor baby. We started antibiotics today so hopefully he'll be feeling better soon.

Oh yea, and to top things off, he's cutting his 4th tooth on the bottom, 8th tooth total.

I hope to have my happy baby back soon! And I hope that this being sick on my birthday does not become a tradition. Last year my birthday was spent leaving the hospital where we'd spent a week due to RSV. This year, I spent battling a sinus infection and a baby with an ear infection (although I didn't know the latter part at the time). I hope to get a break next year!

Play ball! (with toilet paper...?)

Lukas is playing ball with us! He will take one of his toy balls and throw/roll it at us, and when we roll it back, he gets it and throws/rolls it back. :) He started doing this, oh, two days ago. It is so cute! Daddy says that Lukas would first get the balls in his hands and hit them against each other; then, he'd close his eyes and swiftly throw them backwards. After a few tries, he finally coordinated enough to throw the ball back at us instead of backwards.

He's also discovered toilet paper. Now that he's become a pro at walking (he really took off on abuelita's birthday this past Thursday), he walks into the bathroom and heads stright to the toilet paper. He started patting it until he realized that if he pats it in a certain way, the paper will unravel....and unravel.... Fun. ;)

He's doing much better from his short cold. The bug he got last week made its home in my throat and I had 5 full days of a horrible sore throat - it felt raw! I could barely swallow! That, thankfully, has passed. Now if only I knew why he's now waking up between 4 and 5 am each morning! I feel like the walking dead!

On another note, the J was closed yesterday and today, so yesterday I brought L with me to work and boy did he have fun! He got to walk around, read, and play with mommy and her coworkers. He was very happy and sociable, which in turn caused a lot of attention to be bestowed upon him. He ate well and napped well, and so overall, I had a very happy baby at work. Today he stayed home with daddy and from what I hear, has been a bundle of energy.
