This is the latest phrase that causes Lukas to go into fits of uncontrollably laughter. I can say it while he's eating, or while we're giving him a bath, or while we're playing, and each time, he just laughs and laughs and laughs to the point of hiccups. I have no idea where he first heard it, but I said it for the first time to him on Saturday and got the wonderful reaction from him, and since then, every time I say it, he dissolves into laughter.
On another note, it looks like he's getting teeth on the top.... but I'm not sure they're the ones he's supposed to be getting! He got his first pair (2 at the same time) on the bottom when he was a couple days shy of 8 months, and he's not 10 months 1 week and still no other teeth. Well, this weekend I was able to pry into his upper [swollen] gums, only to find the outline of 2 teeth and a dot of white, on the top. Except, instead of being the top 2 central incisors, it looks like he's getting the top 2 lateral incisors first! Go figure my son would be one to go against the "rules"! :) They still haven't broken through, and today I thought I caught a glimpse of a 3rd possible tooth, one of the top central incisors. So maybe, just maybe, this munchkin's going to get all 4 top teeth at one time! OUCH! No wonder his sleep was all disturbed.
On that topic, he's been back to sleeping through the night - phew! We had a few weeks of very limited sleep where we felt we had a newborn on our hands again. But no, he's sleeping again thankfully! We also installed his new, big-boy car seat in our car and he rode in it for the first time yesterday when we went to Tropical Park. My, what a hot but beautiful day it was yesterday for a park outing. We went to scope out the party pavilions for his 1st birthday, and we ended up walking half the park. There were two Mickey Mouse Clubhouse parties, and Lukas had a blast looking at so many Mickeys. He kept kicking his legs, flailing his arms, pointing and saying "uh - uh - uh" in his excitement. He LOVES Mickey Mouse! It's so cute. We're definitely doing a mickey mouse themed 1st birthday.

First haircut, first beach and updates
So I haven't been too good at keeping up here. Summer has proved to be quite hectic, what with me teaching and working and planning Lukas' birthday and keeping up with his schedule and his lack of sleeping at night - eh! May and June have been/are busy busy months!
Lukas got his first haircut this past Sunday (06/08/08). He was great in the beginning, flashing his big ol' smile at the hair lady and charming all in the salon - Cartoon Cuts. He was still smiling as he got handed a lolipop and the hair dresser began snipping his curls; but when she had to hold his head to really cut, oh boy! He was NOT happy! He cried, and the abuelitas cringed, and mommy, mean mommy, couldn't help but giggle. Not that I like to see my son cry, but he's just so funny with the facial expressions he makes when he's not happy. Daddy took lots and lots of pics! And the end result? My baby looks all grown up - like a little man, not a baby. He's looking more and more like a boy and less and less like an infant. Part of growing up, eh?
He's standing on anything and everything that will give him support. He's also starting to cruise, moving from side to side while standing up. Of course, this means that at night, when he wakes up, instead of going back to sleep, he stands up, and then starts screaming "ma-ma-ma-ma" for me to go get him. He's gone from sleeping through the night to waking up every two hours (again!) and now giving us one good night, one bad night. Sigh. I took him to the pediatrician to make sure he was okay, and yep, he's fine. Nothing wrong, except his top gums are puffy and swollen. So maybe he's teething? Who knows. No new teeth yet.
Two weekends ago we went to Ft. Myers and he went to the beach for the first time. He loved the sand and the water and had such a fun time splashing, and he didn't cry when the salt water seeped into his eyes!
Daycare is going remarkably well. Last Friday was the official last day of school, and even though the infant room stays in effect year round, they still celebrated. We had a mini-luncheon in the room and we got to play with our kids and socialize with the teachers and the other mommies. It was very nice. And the teachers even gave the kids little summer gifts - beach pails with bubbles, a book, a toy and sand toys. Very cute! Lukas now reaches for both his caregivers and flashes his award wining smile whenever he sees them. He's happy, which means mommy's happy.
We're also starting to plan his 1st birthday, and can you guess the theme? Yup - Mickey Mouse! He absolutely LOVES Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and he gets all excited whenever Mickey Mouse appears, so the choice was a no-brainer. Unfortunately, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse is tailored towards toddlers, so there's nothing out there for a 1st bday, but it's okay - we'll improvise. I prefer to do something he loves than something he won't recognize. So, in between lesson planning, grading papers, and working, I need to plan for his bday and design his invites.
Oh! And I'm super excited because it looks like there will be an opening for faculty in my department! I'm SO excited - it's the opportunity for which I was waiting! It would be the answer to my prayers - ideal. So, if you read this, send a little prayer my way so that things will work out! :)
So that's all for now, folks! Stay tuned for future updates!
