So my little Lukas Pukas decided to eat paper - when I'm not sure, but that he ate it I'm sure. Yesterday, when I changed his poopy diaper, I was greeted with a nice surprise - little pieces of paper mixed in between with his poop! It reminded me of paper that gets accidentally left in your pockets and then goes through a wash cycle, only grosser. Thankfully though, it doesn't seem to have phased him.
Othe upates for the month, since it's been 3 weeks since I've written: Lukas is standing on his own! He started on May 3rd and has become a pro at it. He stands in his crib, in his pack n play, at daycare, on me, you name it, if he can lean on it, he can stand. It is super cute! Of course this also comes with the inevitable hitting of the head when he loses his balance and comes tumbling down. It hasn't happened too much, but it's happened - on the tile floor, on the bed, on the area rugs, almost everywhere.
Daycare is also going better. He got his first cold post daycare last week and so his sleep has been off for the last 2 weeks. This week was particularly bad as daddy was out of town and abuelita wa staying with mommy, but he decided he'd wake up several times during the night. Last night was the first night he had a good night's rest.
Oh! And today I had my first parent-teacher conference! Too cute. :) That's all for now, folks!

Lukas' first week of daycare
So we finally decided to put Lukas in daycare (although I'm hoping it's temporary - till Aug when the teaching thing comes through!). It's pricey, but right across the street from my job, super clean and the caregivers seem very sweet and nurturing. Several parents at my job have (or have had) their kids there and the infant room was very highly recommended.
Anyway, Tuesday was his first day. I was nervous but felt otherwise okay. I just wish I could see what's going on at all times lol. They were ready for him, with his crib, cubby, and baskets in fridge for his stuff. They have music once a week and creative movement once a week, in addition to other stuff. lol. I feel like he's going to school! He did well, overall happy and social, although he didn't nap much. Miss Patricia said he even got a girlfriend!
Wednesday was harder on me. I cried after dropping him off. He was fine, though, and seems to love Miss Patricia and Miss Josefina.
Thursday was the Independence Day of Israel and they had a parade to which they took the babies. So Lukas got to ride in the little red carts and be outside for a bit. He was a little more sentimental when he saw me, though, and cried a little until I left, but afterwards, when I went in for lunch, I caught him playing and happy until he saw me - then he started his "mom come get me!" whine.
Today was a little hard for both of us, but he was overall in a good mood. He now knows he's going there (I think) so he protests some, but once he's there he seems to be happy and playful. Today, in preparation for mother's day, they had a mother's day card with his handprint and a beautiful pin with a charm that contained a miniature picture of him and miniature versions of his feet! It was so cute I cried! My first mother's day handmade gifts - the first of many more to come. It was very emotional.
Each day, I've also been going over during lunchtime to either nurse him or just spend a half hour with him so the day doesn't seem so long. And it's still not full days, which is great. First week is over and done with; let's see how next week goes!
On a side note, he's standing by himself and trying to take steps holding on to me or to whatever he can hold on to! So I have a feeling that being in there, he's going to be walking in no time! My baby is growing up....

I think we have a daycare...
...for now anyway. There's one place that we keep going back to because of its cleanliness, strict policies, sweet caregivers, stimulating activities and order. The children seem content and the women that work there take care of the kids. Plus, it's right across the street from work, they allow me to go in and nurse him when it's food time, and they seem to genuinely care for their children. So we'll see how it goes. If all goes as planned, Lukas is set to start on Tuesday. I'm still hoping and praying something happens so that I can stay home, but at least for now, he'll be in good hands and make new friends. I think I'm comfortable with that decision. Also, he'll have a routine, which, for this past month, it's been lacking and that's not good for him.
So yes, I'm thinking that this is going to be the solution for now. We'll see what happens come August.
